Assessment:
In the computer lab we will be going to a web site called Nutrition on the Web-for- teens @ http://library.thinkquest.org/l 0990/teen9.html/ We will be spending several days at this site. By giving the needed information each student will be able to find out how many calories they need each day. They will also be able to calculate their Basal Metabolic Rate and Active Metabolic Rate. After this they can go to the diet planner and look at different recipes. They will also go to a section where they can find the USDA guidelines for nutrients. We will finish up the time in the lab by talking with a dietitian via a link from this site. There is also a chat room that we may use where the kids can discuss nutrition with other teens. In the classroom we will be using text to read and discuss related topics such as digestion, growth and development, and what each of the vitamins and nutrients do for our bodies . We will also be using video and laser disc to complete our unit.

Tools:
internet, texts, VCR, laser disc player
