Purpose:
The purpose of the Guidance Department is to help each student realize his or her potential through exploring as many student options as possible. We will do this by helping students make wise choices of goals and by helping them plan strategies and exert the necessary efforts to reach these goals. With so much Information out there both on line and In the papers I have decided to develop a guidance and counseling web page to provide Student, Parents, and Teachers a resource they can turn to for answers about college, career, and parenting Issues.
Content:
The web page will contain the following items:
High School Information:
Graduation Requirements
Calendar of events and deadline information
College Information:
Directory of College Websites
Applications
College Search
Career Information:
Interest Inventories
Job Search
Careers and Occupations search (Embark.com)
Financial Aid Information:
Scholarship Local and National Search
Federal Financial Aid Information
US Department of Education
Parent Resources:
Positive Parenting Online
Preparing your child for college
Study Skills Help
Military Services:
Army
Navy
Air Force
Marines
All branches of the Reserve
As the web page is finished
and put online, I will try and see that students, parents, and
teachers use it by several methods. Some of these would be to:
publish the website in the district newsletter include it on all
enrollment Information this fall presented to the staff in the fall
Inservice students through their English classes early in the fall
semester through organization meeting (PTA, etc.)
I see many possibilities in developing the web page. Many will have
to wait until I obtain the needed experience with web page
construction, but I would also like to involve the community in a
career mentors program where student, parents and teachers could
contact community members in a variety of careers with their
questions. For now however I hope this page with direct students,
parents, and teachers to the needed sites to answer their college and
career questions.
