to Improve Capitalization in Student Writing

Title: Using Word Processing to enhance student writing.
One Sentence Summary: The students will use the Word word
processing program to learn and practice capitalization rules.
Classroom Program Outcome: Students will improve their
knowledge and correct use of capitalization rules.
Classroom Activities: Students will read selections with
capitalization errors which are indicated by the Word program. The
students will then correct the errors in the selection.
Detailed Description:
- Day 1: Introduce students
to Word.
Students will learn how to: Open the program Open documents Save
files Print files Make corrections
- Day 2: Students will be
given a specific capitalization rule(s) and then practice using
Word to locate and correct errors involving that rule in
selections previously typed by the teacher using Word. The
students will then be asked to generate sentences of their own and
type them using Word. They will then correct any errors they may
have made in their own work. The students will print the corrected
files and turn them in to be graded.
- Day 3-5: Students will be
given a new rule(s) each day until they have covered all the
capitalization rules.
Time to be completed: 1 week
Materials/ Resources: Microsoft Word
Teacher originated selections for each capitalization rule.
